B2 First

A First qualification proves you have the language skills to live and work independently in an English-speaking country or study on courses taught in English.
This exam is the logical step in your language learning journey between Preliminary and Advanced.

Exam Format

First is a test of all areas of language ability. The exam is made up of four papers developed to test your English language skills: Reading and Use of English (1 hours 15 minutes), Writing (1 hour 20 minutes), Listening (about 40 minutes) and Speaking (14 minutes per pair of candidates).

Exam Dates

There are many exam dates throughout the year offering both paper-based and computer-based First.

Results

First results are reported on the Cambridge English Scale.

You will receive a separate score for each skill, giving you a clear understanding of your performance. These scores are averaged to give you an overall result for the exam. You will also be given a grade and Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) level.
